"Late Republic of Texas" Public Debt Certificate Dated 1853
Public Debt Certificate for $75 made out to James M. Easton for service in Captain Thomas N. B. Greer's "Boggy and Trinity Rangers" Ranger Company in 1840. The "Boggy and Trinity Rangers" manned Fort Boggy, a palisade fort built by settlers of Leon County, Texas in 1840. 75 yards square, the fort had two blockhouses along with eleven dwellings housing 75 people. The fort withstood several Indian attacks, with Captain Greer being killed in 1841. In 2001, the site along with much of the surrounding land was opened as Fort Boggy State Park. **Very good condition overall. Some minor creasing and smearing of ink.** $150 - $250
