Latin American Wood 33" Virgin Mary Madonna Santos

A monumental circa 19th Century or earlier hand carved giltwood Santos Virgin Mary Lady of Charity sculpture with separate base, modeled in the classic style venerated in the Roman Catholic and other religious traditions. The central Mother Mary statue surmounts a base of detailed carved putti cherub faces. Profuse gilded remnants throughout, the statue is missing hands which may have once held a Jesus figure. Rich patina and excellent detailing. Good vintage condition with age related wear. Measures 33 1/2 in. x 20 in. (statue), 30 3/4 in. x 10 in. (base). Hill Auction Gallery will not ship.
