including a rural dance (signed "Laura Johnson"), an illustration for Randolph Caldecott's 'Three Jovial Huntsmen' (also signed), a couple in 17th century dress (initialled "LJ"), three girls sheltering under an umbrella, with others possibly by her but unsigned (including cats and flowers), in an album compiled by Ethel Grace Madeleine Lambart, a schoolfriend, with drawings and verses in various hands, 75 pages, plus blanks, oblong 8vo (140 x 215mm), 1890-91

JUVENILIA BY THE PAINTER LAURA KNIGHT (1877-1970), who contributed to this album under her maiden name of Johnson whilst a schoolgirl in St Quentin in northern France. The album was compiled by Ethel, another English girl at the school. Laura writes an affectionate note to her friend, who is "So tender and so good to see | Because she is so sweet". Laura was badly bullied whilst at school in France; this album is testament to a friendship formed during troubling times.
