Laureano Barrau Buñol
Spanish
1863 - 1957
Sur la place de Clichy

signed and dated L Barrau 93 (lower right)
oil on canvas
canvas: 35½ by 46 in.; 90.2 by 116.8 cm
framed: 51 by 63½ in.; 129.5 by 161 cm

Condition Report:
UPON REQUEST, PROVIDED BY SIMON PARKES

The following condition report is kindly provided by Simon Parkes.

This work on canvas has been lined. The paint layer is stable and the lining does not compromise the original texture of the paint layer. The painting seems to be clean and well varnished. Retouching is visible around the edges when the work is examined under ultraviolet light. A line of retouching has been applied horizontally across the sky about 1 1/2 inch from the top edge to lessen what appears to be a slightly stronger thread in the original canvas. There may be a spot or two of retouching in the brown horse in the center. There are no retouches of any note within the architecture, remainder of the sky, and the horses on the left. The condition seems to be very good throughout the figures and details on the street. There are a few isolated retouches in the street, which were probably added to address spots of unevenness to the original paint that were thought to be distracting. It is doubtful that these retouches address any actual damage in the street. Overall, the condition of the work is very good.
