Lazurite Ladjuar Medam, Sar-e-Sang, Kuran wa Munjan District, Badakhshan, Afghanistan 5.7 x 4.2 x 3.7 cm (2.24 x 1.65 x 1.45 in) Like a magnet, this Lazurite crystal immediately draws the eye with its deeply saturated color set against a stark white Marble matrix. It originates from Ladjuar Medam, a locality whose name fittingly translates to "Blue Mine" in recognition of the abundance of blue minerals, including Lazurite, Haüyne, and Lapis Lazuli, found there. The Lazurite displays a sharp dodecahedral crystal habit with rich, even coloration of ultramarine-blue that stands out (2.5 centimeters) vividly against the contrasting matrix. Minor associations of Muscovite on the side of the Marble are present as well as a smaller growth of Lazurite and add subtle textural interest while remaining secondary to the bold presentation of the Lazurite.
