Lazzaro Baldi - Morte di Santa Chiara

The work was commissioned to the artist at the end of the seventeenth century by the bishop of Spoleto on the occasion of the improvements planned for the monastery of the Clarisse of Trevi. On back, in the upper right corner is the name of Francesco Bini, delegate of Pope Innocent XII, with the date of inventory 1705, while at the opposite corner there is the inscription of Lazzaro Baldi. The painting is the last work of the artist, it has never been restored, nor re-lined, the frame is original. At the time this artist was well known and listed following the various works already present in various sites. Among the most important ones are the Creation of Adam and Eve, the Universal Flood, and the Annunciation.
