Le Gall FRANK LE GALL THÉODORE POUSSIN "Les Moussons" Portfolio, Dupuis 2015 Original illustration. Signed. Watercolor and graphite on paper 57 × 76 cm (22.44 × 29.92 in.) In 1984, Frank Le Gall created the Théodore Poussin series for *Le Journal de Spirou*. Through this quiet, dreamy young man, Le Gall reimagines the adventure novel, navigating between the styles of Pierre Loti and Stevenson, while emphasizing intimacy, melancholy, and a sense of being far from home. His fluid and elegant drawing style owes as much to the “Ligne claire” as it does to grand illustration. His hero appears as a dandy, standing on the deck of a boat, absorbed by the view of the harbor. It is the unknown that beckons him, through a misty light and the softness of watercolor. “To suggest—that is the dream…,” wrote Mallarmé. Frank Le Gall provides a magnificent demonstration of this here.
