Leadhillite & Mimetite Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region,...
Leadhillite & Mimetite Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia "A cluster of three intergrown pointed gray leadhillite crystals, the largest of which is about 2.25 inches tall. They are associated with some very small yellow mimetite crystals. Bought this specimen with Clive Queit when we visited the baker once in Tsumeb. He had three similar pieces and thought they were anglesite crystals and we got them for about $75 each. Even a blind hog gets an acorn once in a while." - Rock H. Currier There was one find, and one find only, of these remarkable Leadhillite crystals. According to Georg Gebhard, about 20 specimens were found of this size and unique habit. Most are now missing the sharp termination seen here due to the perfect cleavage that could be activated by rough handling. See how many of these show up on the Internet for sale - any bets? There is a custom acrylic base. Overall Measurements: 2.0 x 1.8 x 1.2 inches (5.0 x 4.5 x 3.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from Clive Queit [RHC #4425, acquired 1980] Publication: Rock H.
