Leaf from a large Gradual, with large initial ‘D’, in Latin, illuminated manuscript on vellum, [Italy, fifteenth century], single large leaf, with a large initial ‘D’ in soft pink, enclosing mirrored and intersecting scrolls of blue acanthus leaves, with pink and red leaves on dark pink and burnished gold, the whole initial on a blue ground, and terminating in a spray of acanthus leaves in the margin, smaller initials in tall and thin style in red or blue with contrasting penwork, red rubrics, text in 7 lines of a professional liturgical hand accompanied by music on a 4-line red stave, some washing-out of blue ground of initial, other small spots and stains, slight cockling, held in card mount with tape, else good condition, 370 x 285mm.
