The painting was purchased about 30 years ago at Dorotheum Vienna at a price of ATS 350,000 (€ 25,000).

This work is a characteristic example of the creative power of the painter Leandro Bassano and his workshop. Several animals, horses, donkeys, dogs, sheep and a rooster gather at a watering trough in a hilly landscape. The clay and wooden troughs are filled from jugs by attendants in oriental robes, so that the animals can refresh themselves.
