Body of a war time Leitz screw mount M39 camera, it's a Leica IIIC, Red Curtains, serial number 376336, c. 1941. On the rear there are military engravings: Luftwaffen - Eigentum near the eyepieces and on the top: FI. n°38079. The engravings would suggest a camera destined at the German military aviation during the WWII, but there are doubts. . . -The serial number of this camera doesn't appear in the record of the cameras delivered by Leitz directly to the Luftwaffen. -The aviation cameras were marked directly at the Leitz factory before of the shipping, this is why the serial numbers are known. -The engraving: FI n. °38079 is bigger than usual. -The esthetic conditions, for a military camera, are unusual. It's in very good condition. . . For these reasons we have some doubts on this camera. Even if the font of the engraving Luftwaffen is correct for the period of this camera. Some sources say that some cameras were engraved outside the factory and for this reason characters and dimensions may not correspond. In any case we don't guarantee its authenticity. The camera, as is possible to see from the pictures in in very good condition, for its age, with light signs of use. The shutter isn't in working order, it "run" on the same speeds, but the curtains are the original, that as usual they got dirty. The finder is clean and the rangefinder has a good contrast for its age. There is a film spool. We offer this camera as if were a normal Leica IIIC Red Curtain, I repeat, we don't guarantee that it's a military camera.
