Lennon; A Spaniard in the Works Uncorrected Proof

John Lennon; A Spaniard in the Works (1965) Uncorrected Proof Copy - This stunning work is a highly scarce uncorrected proof copy of John Lennon's highly collectible book, A Spaniard in the Works published in 1965 by Jonathan Cape, London. This copy is presented in the proof-only pictorial dust jacket, with printed sheets, sewn, with black end papers. The book is profusely illustrated with Lennon's idiosyncratic drawings. The most obvious and important difference between this proof and the trade edition is the presence of a dust jacket. The published version, itself scarcely seen in the first edition, came with photographic covers but without any dust jacket, while the proof was released with one. This proof jacket has the same design as the hard cover but carries an exclusive blurb to the front flap and publication details to rear flap. There are also a number of significant changes within the book itself, primarily concerning the color. In the trade version the two colors, brown and green, are used within the text as well as for the illustrations. These colors vary. In the proof the brown is much paler; the green less olive and more mint in shade. The most noticeable feature though, is the presence of two large blocks of color within the proof that were completely omitted in the trade version. These are: pp. 10-11 has a large green floor. When published, this became a white floor; and on the final page, THE END has a presumably grassy hillside which was eliminated in the published version. This is truly a beautiful, glistening copy which is enormously collectible. Please note: Each title and description is written by a distinguished member of the Antiquarian Booksellers' Association of America, International League of Antiquarian Booksellers and American Booksellers Association.
