Artist : Leon Jean Giordano Di Palma ( 1886 - 1940) Overall size including the original frame are 70 cm x 53 cm x 7 cm and the painting measured at sight is 57 cm x 37 cm A large and beautiful signed oil by the Marseille born painter Leon Giordano Di Palma depicting a view of boats and figures on a river. The work is signed lower right and is painted with lovely fresh colours . A very beautiful work in its original frame and superbly executed. Di Palma often painted landscapes with ships or boats and was clearly skillful with his interpretation of light captured on water. He painted in a post impressionist style often with an infusion of nee-classical influences. His work does not come to auction that often. Title: “ A boat on a river " Signature: Signed lower right Medium: Oil on original canvas Overall measurements including it's original frame are 77 cm x cm x cm and the painting measured at sight 57 cm x 37cm Condition: Very nice original condition for it's age with some light area's of craquelure . The paint surface is stable. - unlined original canvas . Leon Jean Giordano Di Palma was Born on the 9th of November 1886, in Marseilles. He was a Painter in oils and watercolours predominantly of Landscapes. Léon Jean Giordano di Palma was appointed as official painter to the Ministry for the Colonies and he exhibited Italian, Greek and North African landscapes at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. His work rarely comes to auction or indeed to the art market . Auction Records Paris, 13 April 1992: Le Passage du Pont Fleuri (watercolour) , 16¼ × 13 ins/41 × 33 cm) FRF 4,000 Paris, 4 June 2003: Figures at the Entrance to the Souq (oil on canvas, 26 × 32 ins/65 × 81 cm) EUR 6,000 We will issue a Certificate of Authenticity with this painting. The beautiful gilt 19th century frame is offered as a gift. See notes below regarding shipping costs. We cannot guarantee safe shipping of picture frames.
