Leon Underwood, British 1890-1975 - Icelandic girl, 1923; oil on canvas, signed and dated lower right 'Leon Underwood 23', 61 x 51 cm (ARR) Provenance: the Family of the Artist Note: In 1920, Underwood won the British Prix de Rome travel scholarship, but chose not to go to Italy, travelling instead to Paris and Iceland in 1923. This painting was created following his visit to Iceland, where he stayed with artists Blair Hughes-Stanton and Rodney Thomas.
