Leonard de Visch (1888-1930) - Sculpture (1)

[ translate ]

Belgium 38 cm Bronze copper nitrate patinated. Leonard de Visch (1888-1930) was known for his various works of art including the well-known Aartrijse war memorial for the military victims of World War I. Between 1920 and 1924 De Visch produced five war monuments. The monuments matched the ideas of the ‘Verbond der Vlaamse Oud-Strijders’ (V. O. S.) , but especially for his bass reliefs, portrait busts of famous people, and religiously inspired images. His stay in the prisoner-of-war camp of Göttingen (from 1916) has greatly influenced his work. In the last years of his life, he has been fascinated by religious art. A number of bass reliefs, busts and statues bear witness to his deep religiosity. We think of his expressive images of Francis and Augustine, his Christ figures, his monumental crucifix and the three-image group The Pilgrims. None other than Queen Elisabeth bought a copy of the beautiful statue of the H. Augustine in prayer in 1931. Will be sent by registered and insured mail with tracking code.
