Leone Clerici (active 19th century)
Italian, Rome, dated 1878
After the Antique
Bust of Octavian

white marble
signed and dated: L. CLERICI ROMA / 1878, and inscribed: C. AUGUSTO
56cm., 22in.

Condition Report:
Overall the condition of the marble is very good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is minor veining to the marble, consistent with the material, in particular to the proper left side of the face and neck and to the chest, just below the clavicle on the proper left side. There are a few scratches and minor abrasions to the surface in areas. There are a few small chips to the edges of the truncation. There are some naturally occurring inclusions, including to below the clavicle on the proper left side, where there is a filled inclusion. The bust is attached to its socle with gesso or plaster, and there appears to be a small loss to the back of the bust at the centre where it meets the socle, which has been filled with plaster.
The condition of the socle is good, with some minor dirt marks, and some minor veining, consistent with the material. There are a few minor chips to the edges of the socle.
