A carved ivory figure of Diana with a dog, circle of Leonhard Kern

Carved in the round and partially freestanding. A small figure carved in the round but designed to be viewed from the front. Diana stands in a gently swaying pose looking to one side. She is dressed in a perizonium and has her attribute, the dog, at her side to represent her status as Goddess of the hunt. This composition is based on works by Leonhard Kern from around 1650, and the present work can presumably be dated - like a comparable piece in the Grünes Gewölbe in Dresden (Kappel 2017, op. cit.) - to around 1650 - 1655.
A drilled hole to the plinth. Vertical hairline cracks. Yellowing, especially to the reverse. Height 23 cm.
