Lesghi
second half 19th century, 296 x 128 cm, North East Caucasus, Daghestan
Seven large Lesghi star devices take up the whole of the dark blue field, flanked by hooked palmettes and embedded in a dense basic design of tiny dots. The design of the white main border – star-shaped blossoms with four short diagonal stems – was widespread throughout the Caucasus.
Condition
Pile in good condition and at its original height. All four corners and parts of the selvedges have been restored.
