Letter from Rabbi Aaron Kotler to the US Women’s Association; Kletzk 1939

Letter of appreciation and blessing from Rabbi Aharon Kotler, sent from Kletzk in year 1939 on the eve of World War II.
The letter expresses thanks to the Women's Association for their assistance in arranging donations in the United States and expresses appreciation for their opposition to establishing an organization to assist yeshivos, "because the Federations bring much loss to the Yeshivos."
Following persecution by the communist government, the Slutzk Yeshiva with Rabbi Isser Zalman Meltzer at its helm relocated to Kletzk, Poland. There, the Yeshiva was led by Rabbi Isser Zalman's son-in-law, Rabbi Aharon Kotler. In 1940 the yeshiva students fled Poland and escaped to Lithuania.
The letter is written on the Rosh Yeshiva's personal stationary during the time that the Yeshiva was in Kletzk and therefore bears the name "Yeshivas Eitz Chaim D'Slotzk, that relocated to Kletzk."

Rabbi Aharon Kotler (1892 - 1963) was a leading Lithuanian Rosh Yeshiva during the Holocaust generation. He was one of the founders of the Torah community in America following the Holocaust and worked tirelessly to rebuild the Yeshiva world following its tremendous destruction during the Holocaust. He served as well as president of the Mo'etzes Gedolei HaTorah in the United States.
