A large and rare faience Art Nouveau Austrian Elvir Otto for Amphora Templitz (Reissner, Stellmacher & Kessel) pottery vase of the "Brittany Farmers" collection (1909-1910, inspired by the Brittany farm life, North West France) offers oversized and flared cylindrical form with high relief scenic landscape having farmer and crop fields, iridescent matte glazing with soft gilding, marked on base with Aphora, Austria and crown stamps as photographed, c1920Measures - 16.5''H x 7.5''W x 7.5''DAdditional Information:This large vase is made by Amphora, Turn-Teplitz Region of Bohemia Austria and was designed by Elvir Otto who worked for the Amphora works around 1909. This series is inspired by the Brittany (North West France) farm life. The decor is in high relief and colored in earthen tintes. Manufacturer Amphora Eduard Stellmacher and the brothers Hans and Carl RieÃYner lead together with Rudolf Kessler the company, which was grounded in 1892. They were specialized in unique styles and interesting glazes used to create what became known as Amphora pottery. They manufactured special luxury porcelain pieces, since 1894 also porcelain figurines and since 1895 fayences (vases and jardinières), and later special vases with animal motives and figurines. Animal figures, modern pottery with floral ornaments, china, stoneware and ivory-porcelain, decorated with enamel, soft colours and also gilded. Amphora AUSTRIA strongly competed with Royal Dux for the best ceramics of that time. In 1905 Stellmacher left the company and Kessel left in 1910 so the brothers continued the Amphora WERKE RIESSNER from that moment.Amphora represented at several exhibitions: 1893 in Chicago, the Highest Award, 1894 in San Francisco / Gold Medal, 1894 in Antwerpen âe" Diplome d`honneur, since 1897-9 8 winter exhibitions of the Vienna museum, 1900 in Paris âe" Medaille d`or, 1901 in St. Petersburg âe" Gold Medal, 1906 in Milan, and 1910 the world exhibition in Brüssel âe" Grand Prix. Some of the well known artist: Ferdinand Doblinger, Fritz Eichmann, Ernst Hegenbarth, Anton Heinzel, Max von Jungwirth, Michael Mörtl, Arthur Strasser and Voigt.After WWII the factory was nationalized in 1945.
