Notes: Li Jin is a contemporary Chinese ink painter known for his playful and unorthodox reinterpretations of the Chinese literati painting tradition. Born in Tianjin, China, he graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 1983 and later taught there as an associate professor. He's associated with the “New Literati” movement, combining both classical ink techniques with contemporary subject matter, often depicting scenes of everyday pleasures such food, wine, friendship, and sensuality together with humor and bold colours. His expressive brushwork and recurring self-portrait figure challenge the restraint of traditional literati aesthetics, presenting a candid and sometimes hedonistic view of modern life.
