A mid-13th century Limoges bronze Corpus Christi

Cast bronze with gilding and enamel. Figure of Christ crucified with four nails, His feet resting on a suppedaneum. He is clothed only in a knee-length perizonium with blue and green enamel and contrasting gilding. The strong contortion of the body is emphasised by the twisting of the crowned head and the varying height of the arms. However, the lowered left arm is thought to have broken off and been erroneously reattached some time before 1986.
Minor wear and signs of weathering. Securely mounted to a velvet-covered panel. Height 16 cm, width of arms 12 cm.
