First Edition.Later issue, with a printed rule above the printer's name on verso of title page and without the numeral "2" printed on the lower margin of p. 17. Contains five speeches by Lincoln and three speeches by Douglas, also a correspondence between the two before their famous debates, and seven debate speeches from each including one rejoinder speech made by Lincoln and then Douglas throughout the seven debate speeches. Howes calls this "historically the most important series of American political debates." Howes L339.
Condition Report: Staining and slight wear to cloth, corners bumped; foxing and edge damage to blank leaves, first two pages slightly loose, occasional marginal smudging and foxing; very good.
