Lincoln Motor Car Hood Ornament
Vintage, fine, early ca. 1930’s, sleek, heavy, high quality figural radiator hood ornament from a Lincoln luxury automobile ("Lincoln Motor Company" incised marking on side edge). Has a nice, rich patina to its all original surface finish, w/ light highlight wear along outer edges of base (surface finish a solid C. 8+). Note: Ford’s son Edsel commissioned the design for this hood ornament to Gorham Mfg. (a fine silversmithing Co.) in 1927, which was crafted using the lost wax casting method similar to that used on the Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy at the time. This design was used by Lincoln throughout the 1930’s before it was replaced by a coat of arms style logo. Mounted on display block.
Size: 5-1/8 x 9 x 2-7/8" (dia.) [piece only]
