You can always come and see the work at our location Lita Cabellut (born 1961 in Spain) is a Spanish multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in the Netherlands. Cabellut is best known for her paintings on large-scale canvases with a contemporary variation on the fresco technique. In addition to her monumental paintings, her work also includes: drawings on paper, sculptures, photography, scenography, installations, poetry, visual poems and videos. She has also expanded to Opera scenography in creating stage, custom and video design. It is Lita Cabellut's central hire of a guiding poetic feeling that moves all these multidisciplinary instruments. The studio of Lita Cabellut (50) is situated on a somewhat ragged quay in The Hague, but those who enter will end up in a surprising world. Persian carpets, antique sofas, an ancient Buddha statue here, a bowl of brightly coloured peppers there. And everywhere those huge, theatrical portraits with which the Spanish artist is conquering the world. "When I paint, I'm a flamenco dancer," says Cabellut, a small, active woman with a mass of tousled dark hair. 'That's why I make such large paintings. That gives me room to move. Painting is a very physical thing for me. I like to make huge movements, I jump, I sing loudly. Every now and then I get a tennis elbow. Then my physiotherapist tells me to paint with less passion. And then I say: Okay, tell me how to do that, because I wouldn't know it myself. ’ Cabellut is rapidly making an international career. Last year she had successful exhibitions in Berlin, London, Atlanta and Paris. The sixteen giant portraits of Frida Kahlo that she exhibited in London were all sold. And also the portraits of Coco Chanel that she exhibited in Paris, were sold very rapidly. Among the buyers were members of the Moroccan royal family and also Janine van den Ende, who collects her work and places it in the Van den Ende Theatres in the Netherlands and Europe. "While making those portraits, I never think about what kind of paintings they should be, or how I'm going to exhibit them," says Cabellut. 'I'm just trying to understand the person. ’ Coco Chanel represents the absolute elegance for me. In her youth, she only knew misery: her mother died when she was 12, her father drank and took her to an orphanage. But she has managed to turn all that misery into elegance and beauty. Her life was a life without shades of grey, just like her fashion. It was black or white. That's something I recognise myself in. ' Interview with the magazine Elegance. Viewing is possible, of course. All information can be found on our website.
