For questions or if you want to see the work in real life, check out our website for more information Lita Cabellut (Sariñena, Aragón, 24 October 1961) is a Spanish artist who lives and works in The Hague. Her work is characterized by large-scale canvases that combine traditional fresco techniques and modern applications of oil paint, ink and other materials. The hand-applied crackle gives a skin to her portraits of vagabonds, prostitutes, religious people, historical figures and fictional characters. Born in a village in Aragón to a Roma family, Cabellut moved as a child with her family to Barcelona, where her mother ran a brothel. She was left in the care of her grandmother and spent most of her days on the streets selling 'imaginary stars'. When her grandmother died, Cabellut lived in an orphanage. At the age of 12, Lita was adopted by a Catalan family. During this period she discovered the Prado and was inspired by the paintings of Goya, Velázquez and Rembrandt. In the meantime LIta Cabellut has grown into an artist of international allure. Her works are exhibited in museums and at international art fairs and her works are actively collected by art lovers at home and abroad. The work offered is of private origin and shows a male figure with a bird. The work is called Paternitas (fatherhood) : a man with an almost biblical appearance holds a small bird on his forearm, an older bird - being the mother - keeps an eye on whether he is handling it lovingly and wisely. The painting is signed and dated on the back. Provenance: -Gallery Hüsstege Den Bosch, 1997 -Private Collection
