In ink to one sheet of wove paper in Kipling's hand: "Recessional./God of our Fathers known of old--/Lord of our far-flung battle-line--/Beneath whose awful Hand we hold/Dominion over Palm and Pine--/Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,/Lest we forget! Lest we forget!/Rudyard Kipling/For Miss J. L. Gilder". Very lightly foxed and with one faint crease. Mounted and framed with a photographic portrait of Kipling. A transcript of the first stanza of Kipling's 1897 poem "Recessional," inscribed to American author and literary critic Jeanette Leonard Gilder.
