No place ("On the way to Port Said/at sea), no date (ca. 1920s). 1 p., on Messageries Maritimes stationary; with typed postal envelope with Port Said stamps . Inscribed by Maugham to Broadway theatre producer Gilbert Miller: "My dear Miller/Thank you very much for sending/me a cable on my first night./It was kind of you to think/of me at that trying moment./Since it took £404 on the/second night I think it has/got something/Yours very faithfully/W.S. Maugham". Minor creasing. In frame. Gilbert Miller (1884-1969) was an American theatre producer. He collaborated with Maugham on three productions, including The Constant Wife (1926-27), The Sacred Flame (1928), and Our Betters (1928). He produced nine plays at the Empire Theatre in New York City in the 1920s, including: The Czarina (1922), Casanova (1923), The Captive (1926-27), Her Cardboard Lover (1927), Interference (1927-28), The Play's the Thing (1928), The Happy Husband (1928), Olympia (1928), and The Age of Innocence (1928-29).
