Lithographic embroidery panel: antependium (altar front)
Italian Barochetto style (Genoa), equivalent to the French Louis XV style, circa 1740–60
Dimensions: L_247 cm, H_0.95 cm
This piece and the secondary panel were intended for a large-scale side altar or tabernacle.
A satin or silk background embroidered with silk threads, featuring a central floral motif rising from a gilded shell, surrounded by garlands of polychrome flowers and foliage on a background forming a large stylized console.
The trompe l’œil architectural structure supports the composition, reinforcing the idea of a design intended to create a visual echo within the same sacred space.
