The black thermoplastic covers molded on the front with a view of a fireman standing before a pedestal and holding a bugle, within an arched rope-twist surround, a hibiscus at each upper corner and a border of scrolling leaves, the back cover molded with a cartouche within a berried foliate scroll border, the burgundy velvet-lined interior cut with a cartouche panel and housing a portrait of a gentleman in suit and top hat, the inside of the back cover printed "Littlefield, Parsons & Co.,/ MANUFACTURERS OF/ Daguerreotype Cases,/ L.P. & Co. are the sole/ Proprietors and only legal Manu-/ facturers of UNION CASES, with the/ Embracing Riveted Hinge,/ Patented October 14, 1856,/ and April 21, 1857."
