A woman picks up a candle in her hands and contemplates how in the middle of the darkness she sees herself illuminated by the flame.
In the composition a descending diagonal is drawn, which guides the gaze from the lady's eyes, through her clothing, and reaches the candle she holds in her hands.
The focus of light is the candle, which illuminates the beautiful lady from a low angle.
The artist uses the complementary colors blue and orange to create a magnificent play of tones. The background is also a contrast to this chromaticism. It is not necessary for the artist to use many different colors to create such a loose and vivid image.
The color is above the line, thus reminiscent of the famous impressionists who are showing their art at this time. The theme, the protagonist, is once again the light. It could be classified as a work influenced by impressionism in a very literal way.
Good state of conservation of the painting. Presents recent restorations.
