Loisel RÉGIS LOISEL THE QUEST FOR THE BIRD OF TIME The Temple of Oblivion (Vol. 2), Dargaud 1984 Original page no. 3, previously published in Charlie Mensuel no. 14, May 1983. Signed Indian ink and white gouache on paper 37.5 × 50 cm (14.76 × 19.69 in.) A beautiful, rich, expansive, and powerful panel depicting the return of Pélisse and Bragon to Pélisse’s mother, the witch Mara. *The Quest for the Bird of Time* was the first major success in the heroic fantasy comic book genre in France. It is unique in that it blends humor, adventure, and inventiveness with astonishing skill in the creation of secondary characters, much like its science-fiction predecessors *Star Wars* and *Valérian and Laureline*. Loisel adds a certain Rabelaisian and risqué eroticism to the mix—something that prudish Americans preferred to ignore!
