Lombard key - octagonal barrel - large size - Italy - Forged and wrought iron - 16th century

Ancient and rare large Italian key, probably for a chest (or a door) . It is in iron, forged and wrought by hand, and it dates back to the 16th century (1500) . Inverted-drop shaped bow (typical of the 1500s keys from this area) , refined well-shaped collar, octagonal barrel with pointed tip, embellished with a bulge. Bit divided into 2 parts, joined in brazing to form a cross. Key obtained from a single iron plate hammered and folded by hand, the streaks due to the hammering and the layered compressions, are still visible on the surface, giving it a damask-like effect.
