Longines Automatic Comet Calendar Watch, 18k, 14k

A rare 18k Longines Automatic Comet Calendar watch with a custom made 14k yellow gold bracelet. This watch was listed in the 'Longines 1957 Catalog Of Luxury Watches'. It has an 18k yellow gold case with a black dial which contains the Longines mark along with "Automatic, Comet Calender". It has gold arrow indices, minute tick marks, and luminous hour dots. There are luminous gold batons for the hour and minute hands and a sweep seconds baton. The date window is located next to the three o'clock position. The watch contains a shock resistant movement and is in a waterproof case. The crown has the Longines logo and brand name.

Originally this watch came with a Longines leather band, however, this one has a custom made 14K solid gold brick link bracelet in a smooth high polish yellow gold. The bracelet by itself weighs 49.6 dwt. It has a fold over safety clasp and is monogrammed on the underside of the clasp with 'SCM'. This watch recently received a new main spring and was fully serviced, it was reported to be in good working condition.

Longines started making pocket watches in 1832. In 1837 they invented their own movement and won the Universal Exhibition award in Paris the same year. Their continual innovation has garnered them numerous awards ever since. In 1919 they became the official supplier for the International Aeronautical Federation. In addition to becoming a fashion icon, their timepieces have been used to record several record breaking events throughout history and they continue to be the time piece of choice for many international sporting and racing events.
