BRAND HISTORY:

Founded in 1832 by Auguste Agassiz in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, Longines has long enjoyed a reputation as one of the oldest Swiss watch manufacturers. Since its creation, the brand has established itself as a pioneer in watchmaking by emphasizing precision and innovation.

The first in-house mechanism to be produced by the company was the caliber 20H, which was the first chronograph pocket watch. Not a bad start. The movement used a monopusher mechanism for the chronograph. A real innovation for the time.
Longines would create even more innovations, including the first dual time zone pocket watch, the first wristwatch chronograph, and the first flyback chronograph with two pushers. All of this happened between 1908 and 1925. A period of 22 years. Subsequently, Longines has had a century-long history in aviation, beginning in 1931 when pilot Charles Lindbergh designed a watch meeting his specifications. He was inspired to design a watch after his famous transatlantic flight in 1927. He wrote a letter to Longines explaining that he wanted a watch that could help future pilots navigate the skies. The result was the Hour Angle watch which was the first watch with an engraved rotating bezel. The Lindbergh watch was later produced by Longines and a commemorative edition was released in the 1980s.
