(Lot) – Alexandre DUMAS. 9 signed autograph letters of request:
- To the Duke of Morny. 4 lines on an in-8 sheet. Concerning his friend Doligny: “Do everything in the world for him; whatever you do for him, you will be doing for me”.
- To a baron. 1 p., in-8. He was assured that “a few lines from me and two good friends whom I am referring to you will be well received by you, even though I do not have the honor of knowing you…”
- To a “dear colleague.” 1868. 2 pp., in-8 on blue paper. He recommends to him a young Englishwoman, the mother of a child by Desnoyers who has just died. He asks that the Society [of Men of Letters] provide assistance to the mother: “I do not have much influence over our young colleagues, to whom my sympathies draw me near but from whom my work keeps me at a distance.” He suggests that a fundraising drive be organized: “In this case, put my name at the top—not as the largest contributor, but as the senior member among those who give on every occasion…”
- To Mr. Bellecourt. 1 p. in-8. He is sending him a friend “to whom I have spoken of your kindness toward me.”
- “Give me, in addition, another copy of *The Pastor of Ashborn*; I want to write the sequel. Yours.”
- 3 lines on cream-colored paper with a gold border: “3 orchestra seats—1 Marmier—1 Boulanger—1 Belloc. Both balconies for you.”
- To the publisher Cadot: “Please do me the favor of giving 100 francs to Bellune.”
- To Dorcher: “You absolutely must give me 250 francs…. You’ll deduct them on Monday from the 1,000 francs from Coigniard. I’ll have finished the five acts by Monday…”
- To Mr. Maugeant [?], architect. 1 p. in-12. Regarding a purchase he would be happy to make but for which he can only afford 100 francs per month.”
