Railway interest: An early Victorian silver-gilt presentation table box, of engine turned rectangular form, the hinged lid bearing a presentation cartouche engraved with a steam engine 'Sheffield' and reading "Presented as a token of esteem to Mr James Fenton Senr by the workmen employed under Mr J Fenton Jnr, Manchester & Leeds Railway 22nd Feb 1845", having applied scrolling borders, maker Francis Clark, Birmingham 1839, weight 4.27oz, w.8.5cm
Note: The renowned Scottish engineer James Fenton was Locomotive Superintendent on the Manchester and Leeds Railway between 1841-45, before moving on to the Leeds & Thirsk Railway. He was a founder and later vice-president of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
