[ translate ]

Ancient Central Asia, Indus Valley, Harappan / Mohenjo-Daro civilization, ca. 2700 to 2000 BCE. A wonderful gathering of ten hand-built pottery animals representing Zebu bulls with large humps, slender bodies, attenuated legs, and grand horns arching from their heads. Applied orange-pink pigment is visible around many of the animals and suggests that it was used to create a skin-like tone. The Zebu is the domesticated form of the Asian aurochs. The humped bull was a recurring theme on the decorative and ritual arts from this civilization as they were revered for their strength and virility. Size of largest: 3.8" L x 1.3" W x 2.625" H (9.7 cm x 3.3 cm x 6.7 cm)

Provenance: private southern California, USA collection, acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.
