Lot of 10 Peruvian Clay Spindle Whorl Beads

[ translate ]

**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Peru, ca. 500 BCE to 1500 CE. A group of ten beautifully decorated ceramic spindle whorls, each of a roughly conical form and drilled through vertically. Incised abstract and zoomorphic motifs decorate each. Spindle whorls were not just utilitarian items in the Pre-Columbian world. Beautiful textiles were an important element of elite and ceremonial costume, and the importance of whorls as tools to create them seems to have been recognized in ritual deposits. These were not objects to be discarded, but rather elevated with veneration. Size of largest: 0.75" W (1.9 cm)

Provenance: private Dunn collection, Coral Springs, Florida, USA, acquired in the 1990s

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#151519
Condition Report: All are intact. Light wear on surfaces of all, with some deposits. Motifs are well preserved.
