Lot of 2 Costa Rican Stone Avian Celt Pendants
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Guanacaste / Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 800 CE. A wonderful pair of axe celts, each one finely carved from a single piece of greenstone, both depicting avian figures with tall, lobed crest feathers, prominent pointed beaks, and arms or wings (as they may represent transforming shaman figures), held across the chest. Each one is laterally drilled behind the beak for suspension and/or attachment. Size of largest: 0.7" W x 4.375" H (1.8 cm x 11.1 cm)
Provenance: ex Craig Hendrix collection, South Carolina, USA; ex Charles Craig Jr. collection, Costa Rica, acquired in the 1960s and 1970s
