Lot of 2 European Iron, Wood & Antler Daggers

Europe, probably England or Italy, ca. 16th to 18th century CE. A lovely set of two European daggers, each with forged-iron blades and intricate handles. The smaller knife, perhaps Italian in origin, has a tapering blade with a reinforced tip suited for effectively penetrating lighter armor or chain mail. A spiraling wooden handle is attached to the thin tang and displays traces of applied red decorative pigment. The larger hunting knife is English in origin and has a wide petaloid blade with a shallow central ridge, a thin quillon with serpentine terminals, and a thick handle composed of deer antler attached to the tang. The components of both daggers exhibit fine layers of lustrous and matte patina. Size: 4.2" W x 14.625" H (10.7 cm x 37.1 cm); 15.4" H (39.1 cm) on included custom stand.

#146310 Dimensions: Condition Report: Small chips and abrasions to both handles, with stable fissures and fading to original pigmentation on wooden handle, and darkening to antler handle. Both blades have slight bending to overall form and light oxidation, otherwise intact and very good. Light earthen deposits and fine patina throughout.
