Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Mezcala culture, ca. 500 to 200 BCE. A pair of stone axe gods of a highly abstract style, the humanoid details rendered to the most minimal of forms. Aptly placed string-cut lines and grooves delineate the legs, arms, head, and mouths on both. Provenance: ex-Idledale, Colorado, USA collection; ex-Arte Primitivo Gallery, New York City, New York, USA
