These two maps were issued in a Congressional report concerning river and harbor improvements in the vicinity of Georgetown and Winyah Bay.

A. Plan of Georgetown South Carolina Compiled from Plans Wm. Greene & Chas. W. Forster, by Le Grand G. Walker, dated 1885 (26.2 x 32.3"). This town plan shows occupied lots in hand coloring with undeveloped tracts in outline. Names and locates several mills, a turpentine distillery, a Methodist cemetery, and the proposed route of the Georgetown & Western Railroad. Includes a key at bottom listing 23 points of interest. Surrounded by three inset maps of the region.

B. U.S. River and Harbor Works Map of Parts of N. and S.C. Showing Rivers and Harbors Under Process of Improvement, Flowing Into and Connected with Winyah Bay at Georgetown, S.C., by Reid Whitford, dated 1895 (17.7 x 20.2"). This map of the Carolina coastline covers the region from Wacamaw Lake south to the Cooper River. It presents the railroad and canal network in the vicinity, with the width of each color line indicating the relative value of commerce on each canal. As of 1895, the total commercial value of goods on these canals was $15.3M.
