Lot of 3 Chimu / Inca Textile Slings
Pre-Columbian, Peru, Chimu, ca. 1100 to 1470 CE; Inca, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A fabulous gathering of three colorful textile slings comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama wool) fibers. The shortest sling strap is of Inca origin and features a trio of repeating diamond motifs in hues of black, russet, and wheat. The second sling is Chimu in origin and has a thick, bifurcated projectile housing in the center. The longest sling is also Chimu in origin, displays a repeating diamond and zigzag motifs along the arms, and has a thick projecting holder. A great ensemble of utilitarian weapons from ancient Peru! Size of longest (Chimu): 57.25" L x 1.3" W (145.4 cm x 3.3 cm).
Provenance: private Allison collection, Kent, Washington, USA, inherited in the mid-1970s
