Lot of 4 Viking Iron Knife Blades
**First Time At Auction**
Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 9th to 11th century CE. A set of 4 forged-iron knife blades of utilitarian forms. The first two have single-edged blades with gently pointed tips, protruding shoulder fins, and slender tangs for inserting into handles carved from wood, stone, or bone. Next is a wider blade with a thick spine and a gradually tapering tip. The largest knife has a thick spine and a lengthy tip that narrows to form a point, all in front of a petite tang with one remaining attachment rivet. Each knife blade is enveloped with warm patina indicative of age. Size of largest: 6.8" L x 1" W (17.3 cm x 2.5 cm)
Provenance: ex-estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA, acquired before 2000

Condition Report: All pieces have slight bending to overall forms, light encrustations and pitting, and oxidation commensurate with age, otherwise intact and very good. Great patina throughout. Some blade edges are still sharp to the touch.
