Lot of 7 Japanese Edo Bamboo, Wood & Steel Arrows

**First Time At Auction**

East Asia, Japan, Edo Period, ca. 1603 to 1868 CE. A fine gathering of arrows made with slender bamboo bodies. Two arrows have diamond-shaped, forged-steel points, two have iron points, and one bears a wooden 'whistle' head. Whistling arrows like this example were fired onto the battlefield to give other archers an idea of where to aim if on the field of battle as well as to give a fair warning to any foot soldiers who may be in the line of fire. Size of largest (whistling arrow): 1.3" W x 40" H (3.3 cm x 101.6 cm).

Provenance: private J.H. collection, Beaverton, Oregon, USA
