Lot of four sculptures; c. 1930.
Lot of four sculptures; c. 1930.
Patinated bronze and calamine.
With marble bases.
Measurements: 10.5 x 11 x 10 cm (larger); 8.5 x 12 x 7 cm (smaller).
Set formed by two bronze sculptures that represent in one of the cases two monkeys and in the other one a reptile. During the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, animal-themed sculpture finally achieved its own status within the context of Romantic sculpture. Seeking to break away from the classical sculptural ideal, many artists saw in the animal theme a new way of expression, linked to the emotional and irrational nature, in a purely romantic sense.
