Lots (1-12) form part of the collection of a wealthy family that moved to China as missionaries in the late 19th century, living in Beijing and later Shanghai. Their son served as Assistant Commissioner to the Shanghai Municipal Police in 1919 until 1928. The family returned to England shortly after the Second World War. A Chinese tianqi lacquered barrel stool, Wanli period, the top surface decorated with figures in a landscape, set in the round frame supported by five outward curved legs each with a circular ring, 44cm high. 明萬曆 填漆人物山水圖紋鼓凳 來源：拍品號1至12皆為伉儷私人收藏。19世紀後期，紳士及其家庭以其傳教士的身份移居中國北京及上海，其子於1919年至1928年委任上海市警察局的副局長，於二戰後返回英国。
