Louis Gautier was a painter of portraits, landscapes, murals and also a decorator. He earned a scholarship in his hometown and moved to Paris, where he was a pupil of Alexandre Cabanel from 1880 to 1884. He participated in the Salon des artistes Français in Paris, the Salon de Marseille and various collective exhibitions in Montpellier, Avignon. His landscapes are particularly characterized by precision and careful construction.
