Died on December 24,1973 in Paris. Painter of nudes, landscapes, still lifes, flowers, watercolourist, illustrator. Drafted at a very young age during WWI, he began exhibiting, in 1920, in Paris, at the Salon des Indépendants, of which he became vice-president; salon d’Automne, of which he was a member; salon des Tuileries, from its founding. In addition, he participated in the exhibitions of the Artistes du temps Présent, at the Petit-Palais Museum; he was a member of the jury at the 1937 exhibition, on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition in Paris. He showed sets of his paintings in solo exhibitions, in Paris, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Cologne, etc. In 1932, he was awarded the Blumenthal Prize. He had a prolific career as a illustrator: “Fables” by L. Mirande ; “Sans rime, mais non sans raison” by F. Clar ; “Le Sel de la terre” and “Les Anges noirs” by Raymond Escholier; “Les Chemins des cercles” by Raymond Roussel. Painter, his work is split between many landscapes of his native Bourbon, still lifes with sometimes flowers and fruits, and nudes. In the course of his evolution, Louis Neillot has remained attached to the search for structures inscribed in nature, in their transposition into painting to reconcile balance and dynamism, in the use of colour to make room for the symbolic and the expressive.
